Begin your adventure with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to the Sino-Nepal border at Rasuwa Gadi. Our team will pick you up from your hotel in Kathmandu for the 7-hour, 130 km journey. Along the way, enjoy breathtaking views of snow-capped mountains, lush forests, and towering peaks. The journey includes a passage through Langtang National Park, where you might encounter some interesting wildlife. Upon arrival in Rasuwa Gadi, check in at your hotel and rest for the night.

After breakfast, a short drive takes you to the border where you will enter China via the Gyirong border. Our Tibetan guide will meet you and escort you to Gyirong Town. Spend the day exploring Gyirong Valley, described by British explorer Howard-Bury as the most beautiful valley in the world. Visit Sherpa villages, dense forests, serene landscapes, and admire the snow peaks towering above.

Today, set off on an exciting journey to Everest Base Camp. As you ascend from Gyirong (2800m) to the Everest region (over 4500m), witness dramatic changes in the landscape. Pass through forests, waterfalls, and canyons before crossing the Kong Tang Lamu Pass (5236m). Along the way, marvel at Mt. Shishapangma and the serene Pelku Tso Lake. At Gawula Pass (5198m), enjoy views of five peaks above 8000 meters, including Mount Everest. Visit Everest Base Camp (5000m) and the Rongbuk Monastery (5154m) before heading to Tingri (4300m) for the night.

  • Insider Tips: Since today’s itinerary rises sharply from low altitude to over 5000 meters, in order to ensure your travel safety and avoid altitude sickness, we choose to spend the night in Tingri County (4300m) instead of Everest Base Camp (5200m).

Begin your overland journey from Shigatse to Lhasa, starting with a visit to the ancient town of Gyantse. This historic town is home to the Perklor Monastery and the famous Kumbum stupa, offering a glimpse into Tibet's rich cultural heritage. Take your time to explore and photograph the charming streets and ancient architecture of Gyantse, capturing the essence of this timeless place.

As you continue your journey, you'll pass by the magnificent Korola Glacier, the largest glacier in Tibet. Next, arrive at the sacred Yamdrok Lake, one of Tibet's three holy lakes. Today, immerse yourself in the spiritual heart of Tibetan Buddhism. Begin with a morning visit to Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in Tibet and home to over 10,000 monks. Explore the vast complex, including the Coqen Hall, where your guide will share insights into Tibetan Buddhist teachings and history.

Next, visit Loseling College, a prominent center for monastic education. Observe the daily routines and study practices of the monks, gaining a unique perspective on their disciplined lifestyle.

In the afternoon, head to Sera Monastery, one of the 'great three' Gelug monasteries of Tibet. Witness the famous Tibetan Monks Debate, held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. Trek or Take a Bus to Everest Base Camp: From Rongbuk Monastery, you have two options to reach Everest Base Camp:

  • Trek: You can trek from Rongbuk Monastery to Everest Base Camp, which is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) one way. The trek usually takes around 2-3 hours, depending on your pace and acclimatization.
  • Bus: Alternatively, you can take a shuttle bus from Rongbuk Monastery to Everest Base Camp. The bus ride takes around 20-30 minutes.
